||
RULES FOR ADMISSION Violinists of any nationality, born after 1/1/1976, may participate in the competition. The following are required for enrolment in the competition: 1) competition application form with programme of test pieces drawn up according to the form arranged by the secretariat (also available on web); 2) birth certificate or passport copy; 3) curriculum vitae; 4) 3 photographs (passport-size); 5) enrolment fee: 100 Euros to be paid charges excluded by and no later than may 31th 2008 by : - direct payment - international postal money order headed to: Fondazione “Alberto Curci” - via Cesario Console 3, 80132 Napoli - Italia - bank transfer to be registered to Fondazione Curci – Napoli via Santa Brigida 68 – Unicredit Banca, Agency of Naples - Iban:IT/86/R/02008/03400/000010523515 ; swift code: UNCRIT2B600 All the relevant documents and the enrolment fee will be sent to: Segreteria del Concorso di violino via Cesario Console 3, 80132 Napoli - Italia BY AND NO LATER THAN (date on postmark will be considered). Any variations to the programme of test pieces will be accepted providing they are communicated to us by and no later than Agu 31st 2008 (date on postmark). Before the performances, each competitor must show a valid personal identification document to the Secretariat Desk and must partecipate to the drawing of lots that will establish the order in which candidates will play. Winners of the first prize in any of the previous “Alberto Curci” International Violin Competitions are excluded from the competition. A reserved area where users may access by means of an identity code that the system manager will indicate after successful on line registration. PROGRAMME FIRST ELIMINATION ROUND 1. BACH: 1st and 2nd movement of one of the three Sonatas for solo violin, or “Chaconne” from the partita in D minor; 2. PAGANINI: two capriccios chosen by the competitor. SECOND ELIMINATION ROUND 1. Sonata from the 16th - 17th centuries by an Italian composer: Bonporti (Inventions), Corelli, Tartini, Veracini, Vitali (Chaconne), Vivaldi; 2. Sonata for violin and piano to be chosen by the competitor from among Beethoven, Brahms, Franck, Schumann; 3. A major composition for solo violin or violin and piano by Bartok, Berio, Bloch, Curci, Dallapiccola, Hindemith, Petrassi, Prokofiev, Schoenberg, Sciarrino, Stravinsky, Szimanowsky, Webern, Ysaye; 4. A compulsory piece by an Italian composer which will be sent to the enrolled competitors at least three months prior to the competition opening date. THIRD, FINAL ROUND BEETHOVEN: Concerto in D major op. 61 for violin and orchestra. |

COMPETITION REGULATIONS The competition will take place in 2008 from from Thursday 30th october to Friday 7th november 2008. The competitors will be called upon to perform in each of the three tests according to the order established following the drawing of lots by the Secretary of the Fondazione “Alberto Curci” on Thursday 30th october 2008. The performances in the competition will be public. No more than 12 competitors will be admitted to the second round. The overall duration of this round will not exceed 60 minutes. The third round is organised in two phases: SEMIFINALS: no more than six semi-finalists will be admitted who shall perform the 1st tempo and cadenza of the Beethoven Concerto accompanied by the piano. FINALS: no more than three finalists will be admitted who shall perform the whole Concerto by Beethoven accompanied by the orchestra. All the compositions in the programme must be performed by heart, with the exception of the Sonata as in section 2 above and the compulsory piece as in section 4 above of the second elimination round. A pianist will be available for the competitors who do not have their own accompanists, provided they make this request in filling in the application form. The final competitors shall stay in Naples until the end of the event and the public prize-giving ceremony. |

ACCOMMODATION The “A. Curci” Foundation will reimburse hotel and breakfast expenses to competitors who reach the second elimination round and the third final round, for the period of duration of these tests, in a hotel having special agreement with the Foundation. In order to be entitled, the competitors shall: 1. indicate so when filling in the application form; the Foundation will indicate the name of the hotel and the fixed prices; 2. book the hotel room by 30th august 2008; hotels will require name and credit card number and expiry date and date of arrival to Naples; 3 submit the receipt of the hotel bill released after payment to the Competition Secretariat in order to obtain the reimbursement by the Foundation. Any cancellation shall be made by Sept. 30th 2008. After this date the hotel will require the payment for two days, in case of cancellation made by Oct 15th 2008, and for 4 days in case of cancellation made afterward. |

JURY The jury will consist of famous Italian and foreign musicians. The choice of candidates for the second and the final rounds, as well as the final ranking, will be made by the jury whose verdict may not be appealed against. During any of the three rounds, the jury may recall any competitor for an additional test, to be chosen from the compositions presented by the competitor and mentioned in these regulations. Any competitor who refuses the jury’s verdict regarding his/her ranking, or who does not comply with their decisions regarding the performance of the concerto, or does not attend at the prize-giving ceremony, shall be excluded from the competition; this behaviour will be reported to the Federation Mondial of International Music Competitions. |

PRIZES 1ST PRIZE € 10,000 2ND PRIZE € 3,000 3RD PRIZE € 2,000 Special Prize € 1,500: for the best performance of the compulsory piece. Critic’s award The prize, created with the support and cooperation of Edizioni Curci of Milan, will be awarded by a panel of journalists, musical critics or musicologists, different from the competition jury. The prize is a violin valued 5000,00 euros, Alessandro Gagliano 1710 model, offered by Bottega Liutaia Anema e Corde in Naples. |

CLOSING CEREMONY Prizes will be awarded to the finalists during a ceremony where the winner of the competition will play the Concerto in D major by Beethoven, The other winners may be asked to perform a composition for solo violin or for violin and piano chosen by the jury from the competitors’ programmes. The winner of the special prize may be asked to perform the compulsory piece by an Italian composer as in section 4 of the second elimination round. |
