The history of the violin in Naples has still to be traced . Probably some cities of the East Europe or Soviet can boast magnificence and several leading figures. But, at the shade of the Vesuvio , the instrument that the Italian lute-maker brought to perfection , has always been object of studies since the first half of the seventeenth century, when Andrea Falconieri was Maestro of the Real Cappella and composed Fantasias , Songs and Dances for violin , viola and basso continuo.
